Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours of operation?
Hours of operation are 6:30 AM - 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday. We are closed for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

What meals do you provide?
Nutrition is important to us here at Oak Grove Academy. We believe children learn best when they feel love, safety and a full stomach. Our weekly menus were established with the assistance of a dietician to insure a balanced and child-friendly menu. We provide a snack breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack each day. Once table foods have been introduced at home, children are welcome to eat from our menu daily.

What kind of training do your teachers receive?
As part of our accreditation with the Georgia Accrediting Commission, Inc, we require all our staff members to be certified in CPR, First Aid and Fire Safety. We also require all staff members to attend 20 hours of accredited training specific to their classroom needs.

What will I need to provide for my child?
The daily supply of diapers, wipes, bottles, and baby food are provided by parents. We also ask parents to send all children an extra change of clothes. For personal comfort and a reminder of home, most parents provide a blanket and a soft toy for rest time in the older classrooms.

Can my mother pick up my child when I am late?
You have the opportunity to list anyone of your choosing to pick up your child from Oak Grove Academy. If you have a last minute change, simply let us know who you give permission to take home your child. Please remind friends and family picking up your child to bring a photo ID as we will check their ID before allowing your child to leave.

What is the average length of employment for your lead teachers?
The average length of employment for our full time lead teaching team is over 3 years. Two of our teachers have taught at Oak Grove Academy for more than 8 years. We take great care in hiring loving, caring and experienced teachers. Prior to employment all teachers undergo a criminal background check, are required to provide two previous employer references, and two personal references. All references are contacted before hiring to ensure a safe and loving environment with consistent caregivers.

How do you handle discipline?
The first step in creating classroom control is a developmentally appropriate environment equipped with educationally sound materials and activities for children. Children are redirected to more appropriate activities when required. In older classrooms a thinking time and meeting with the teacher complement redirection. Anytime a child has a behavior problem impacting other students, the parents will be involved in the correction. We believe in growing and learning from mistakes. Our goal is to give children the confidence to handle problems and make good choices as they continue in life. We desire to teach our children how to behave not just for today, but for always. Discipline builds correct and appropriate behaviors for life.
