Junior Pre-SchoolOur Junior Preschool classroom introduces a structured environment where the children transition through both self-directed and teacher-directed small group activities. Our "High Reach" curriculum promotes language development through story time, flannel board stories and music and movement. Language skills are extended through exposure to our weekly Spanish class. Weekly visits from the music teacher enrich and extend our monthly thematic curriculum. Motor skills are practiced through large motor activities such as outdoor play and indoor games while fine motor skills focus on coloring, stringing large beads, and building with blocks. Children in our preschool classroom benefit from daily numeral and letter recognition. They spell their names daily and play letter and number games. Through daily calendar activities, the children practice counting 1-30 each day. In this classroom children participate in programs where they perform for their parents. Participation in dramatic play such as acting out a story at story time or dress up activities help promote social skills as well as engage student involvement ensuring a higher level of achievement. This elevated level of performance is achieved through our low teacher student ratio (1/8). All children are potty training or potty trained in our Junior Preschool classroom. The children are assisted in developing independent restroom skills. Our goal is to help all children master toileting skills by age 3. Self-help skills are promoted through toilet training, independent feeding, hand washing, dressing themselves and using words to communicate with others. Through consistent loving guidance, our Junior Preschool children develop confidence to tackle a most advanced educational curriculum designed for 3 year olds. |
