Junior Toddlers

Toddlers are a group of children who are unique! At Oak Grove Academy we capitalize on this uniqueness by offering a learning and caring environment where nurturing and physical affection are freely given.

A key element to this approach of instruction involves a low teacher/student ratio. Our Junior Toddlers classroom is a 1 teacher to 6 children room with a total of 12 children in the class. This allows time for positive interaction between the teacher and toddler. This is essential for bonding and building self-esteem. Psychologists state that proper bonding is a prerequisite for building sound relationships which will last a lifetime. Individual development and growth is a key concept in our toddler program. All children are given opportunities to increase their gross and fine motor skills through exploration of various manipulative materials and developmentally appropriate toys and equipment.

All toddlers in our Junior Toddler room are walking well enough to go outside on our toddler playground and drinking from a sippy cup before coming to the Junior Toddler classroom. While in this classroom, the children develop language skills through weekly vocabulary cards that accompany our thematic curriculum as well as further instruction in baby sign language. Music and movement in the classroom is an integral part of the Junior Toddlers program. The curriculum involves nursery rhymes as well as weekly visits from our Music and Spanish teachers. "High Reach," a nationally acclaimed program, is incorporated into our program with emphasis on communication skills such as speech and language development. Our program is designed to keep toddlers' young minds as active as their toddling bodies. Self-help skills such as feeding themselves, dressing skills, independence and self-confidence are mastered in our young toddler room. We offer activities for toddlers to explore their world through art, music, and creative movement in a challenging and stimulating environment.
