Pre-K4

Oak Grove Academy is committed to the total needs of your child. It is our goal to prepare each child for a successful entry into elementary school. Our private Pre-K4 students are offered a challenging, stimulating and enriched environment in which to learn and grow. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum represents a broad range of learning experiences and readiness skills taught in a positive setting resulting in independent and confident life long learners. Many local private and public elementary school teachers recommend our program for the structure, thoroughness, and elevated curriculum.

Our language program includes both Land of the Letter People and Lives of the Letter People, a kindergarten level phonics program where the stories of the Lives of the Letter People explore phonics rules, geography and social situations in a stimulating, memorable and enjoyable manner. Students apply their understanding through vocabulary work, reading and decoding activities, language experience stories, and application tasks.

Our math program is the Saxon math curriculum. From reading analog clocks, to basic addition and subtraction facts this curriculum offers a great deal of challenge for our students. The manipulative's used allow students to explore the concepts before applying them in a pencil and paper format making learning fun and meaningful. The purpose is to build confidence as well as a strong foundation for elementary school success.

Our science studies are based on quality literature supported by field trips for observation and application. Our Pre-K4 students participate in advanced grade level field trips at local nature centers and museums. From photosynthesis to life cycles, our science units build upon one another for a long-term understanding and appreciation of the world.

A large part of our Pre-K4 day involves students developing confidence, self-reliance, independence and responsibility while exploring and discovering in this open classroom (1-10 pupil/teacher ratio). The phrase, "I did it!" is a daily celebration of one's own success. We encourage the children to feel proud of themselves and to achieve for the joy of success rather than the praise of others. Our goal is to instill intrinsic motivation and self-confidence in every child.

The Pre-K4 classroom contains its own computer lab where the students are scheduled daily time as well as optional time. The students are taught respectful and responsible technology skills as well as terminology.

Our Pre-K4 classroom attends weekly special classes including Physical Education, Music, Spanish and Art. The physical education lessons focus on coordination, sportsmanship, listening skills and problem solving. Our Music and Spanish teachers meet with the students in small and large group settings conducting lessons based on the monthly themes. Each week the art teacher allows the children to explore a master artist through stylistic interpretation. The little masterpieces would wow any gallery!
