Pre-School

At Oak Grove Academy, the focus is always on meeting the needs of the children. Our Preschool classroom is no exception! The students in this class are encouraged to participate in a variety of child-centered activities, including arts and crafts, games, imaginative play in home living and puppets and in fine motor activities such as blocks, Legos, and handwriting.

The children are also encouraged through teacher directed activities. A daily circle time encompasses discussions about weather and the calendar as well as a preview of the day's activities. During this time the children practice counting 1 to 30, basic calendar skills, and speaking in front of a group of peers. The children are read to every day and are prompted to participate in storytelling activities. The "High Reach" curriculum in use is designed for older 3 year olds and promotes early math and language skills. This curriculum is designed to build upon skills taught in previous years. Our teachers extend the academics through regular handwriting instruction, scissor skills, and programs for parents. The curriculum is enriched with weekly visits from our Music and Spanish teachers. This class also participates in our Art class designed to foster creative art and exposure to art from master artists.

The preschool children have two recess periods each day. The teachers offer a choice of either organized activities or free time play. The playground has been designed for this specific age group and includes swings, a playscape and tricycle track with sturdy tip-resistant tricycles. Our school also offers a water play area which is used in the warmer months.

We are very enthusiastic about our Preschool program and the performance of our students. We invite you to join our family and look forward to a long learning relationship.
